He trained for his MD and Board Certification in Psychiatry from the PGIM (Colombo) at the North Colombo Teaching Hospital, Ragama and the Professorial Psychiatry Unit at University of Oxford, UK. He was a commonwealth scholar at Linacre College and a research fellow with the Oxford Project to Investigate Memory and Ageing (OPTIMA). He has more than 35 publications in peer reviewed journals and more than 75 conference presentations. He has received Presidential awards for research in successive years. He is a reviewer for numerous journals including the British Medical Journal and the British Journal of Psychiatry. He also edits the South Asian Journal of Psychiatry.
